I don’t know about you but 2017 was a seriously tough year for me. They say when you’re working on yourself it’s like peeling an onion. Well let me tell you my onion was flippin’ enormous!!! I do feel so much better having done a lot of inner work though, and I’m wishing this coming year to be extraordinarily fabulous for both of us!
I love the idea of a brand new year, but I don’t set New Year’s resolutions anymore. I used to get disappointed by week 3 having already failed miserably. Instead I work on a 12-Week Year basis. Check out the book 12 Week Year by Brian Moran if you have no idea what I’m talking about! It’s a FABULOUS way to run your business and life, it really helps you to focus on what’s super important, and get stuff done! Maybe how I use it is a post for another day.
Each year I set myself a focus word for the year. I spend quite a bit of time thinking about what would encapsulate the best year for me. It needs to be a word that has a thread through every area of my life and business.
This year was a bit more of a challenge. I know that as 2017 was drawing to a close, I was feeling more and more like I wanted to pull back even more from ‘hustle’ and run my business and life with more ease. This meant I then kept coming back to the same words – simplicity and fun. I then came up with my perfect word, even if it does feel like I’m cheating!
So drum roll please…
My word for 2018 is going to be Connection. Hey, my nickname is Queen of Connection, so it makes sense, right?! Funny thing is, I read my Word of The Year post for 2017 and realised my word was connection for 2016 too. I was thinking, ‘shall I change it’, and then thought, ‘na, I want more of the same but want to go even deeper.’ Check the post out, it gives you some pointers on how to choose your own word of the year.
I think if you’ve been following me for a while, either from my newsletter or being of my Facebook group, that last year was all about connection – but mostly about really connecting with myself – my true self. Challenging stuff, but it was about time to let out my inner woo and not taking any more crap off anyone anymore!
So how will this connection play out in my world? Connection with my friends – I became way too much of a hermit last year. It wasn’t until the Autumn that I really started connecting with my friends offline again. I might be an introvert, but I also know I need to connect in order to keep my sanity! Are you connecting with your friends enough? It’s so easy to sit behind the computer with this laptop lifestyle, but your business is always there, are your friends?! Connection with my creative side – More time spent on creating – it’s where I lose myself and where I come up with my best ideas Connection with books – So not just reading for the sake of reading but really connecting with the words, connecting with what they mean for me and then implementing what I’m learning (Oops that makes me go back into lots of personal development books, so maybe I need to add in a few fiction books to the list too. I set a goal of reading 36 books in 2015, and just 12 in 2016 although I did nearer 20 then so I might set a fabulously big goal of 36 books again! Connection in my business – Reaching out 1:1 and having yet more amazing connection calls. I get SO much out of them, they really give me a buzz, and if I get to help someone somehow on a call then that’s’ even better. On that note, come and have a virtual cappuccino with me. Just book in a Rock Your Biz Chat. No sales conversation, just a lovely chat for us to get to know each other, over a cuppa of course dahlinks! Connection with nature – I’m moving up to Scotland next year so exciting times ahead. I think it’s safe to say mountains and nature are in my future!
I’m sure there will be lots of other ways for me to bring the word in too, for now that’s a great start.
