Hi there, if you’ve been following along then you will know that I’m taking part in the 30 Day Blogging Challenge with Sarah Arrow (for the 2nd time) and combining it with a content challenge that was running last month in Jenn Scalia’s Little Black Business Book membership group. Today is day 20 of the challenge – How To Get More Engagement From Your Followers. This post came about from a question posed by one of my Coaching Rocks group members, Patti Osvarek of Coaching For Inspiration With Patti. I’d spent ages trying to get today’s video uploaded and then realised that I was being given a message to slow things down!
If you’re observant then you might have noticed that I went AWOL for a while! My daughter is nearly 16 and about to embark on the second stage of her GCSE Studies. She’d worked flat out to get A’s in the two GCSE’s that she took before the holidays (so proud of her) and I realised that she had no intention of slowing down for the coming year.
That got me thinking about how it was way more important for me to take some time out of my business to spend precious time with my family, going out on day trips, spending some quality time away in Dorset and having some sofa snuggling time.
Yes, our businesses are important, but time goes by so very fast we need to notice the bigger things too, those simple things in life. I don’t know about you, but although I want a successful business, I don’t want to look back and regret not enjoying the journey. So here is today’s day 20, with more to follow in the coming days.

SOCIAL MEDIA
- Do different types of posts, pay for advertising. Share some of you, some blog posts, some inspiration. A rule of thumb – 80% business, 20% you. You might share what you’re working on. It can sometimes be that when you share stories/random musings they get better engagement than those where you’ve carefully crafted questions!
- Make sure your content is relevant to your ideal client
- Sometimes your reach can change according to the types of posts that you create. When you start to notice the trends you can then create more of that type of post. Notice what is/isn’t working – tweak and adapt. There is trial and error involved.
- Stories can help create engagement. It might be that your story leads them into what you’re creating rather than every post being about promoting
- Behind the scenes – what your latest project is, more about you and what you’re doing, how you do things in your business without constantly heavy promoting
- Be consistent
WEBSITE
- Comment on other people’s blogs – create great conversations and it can drive traffic to your site too
- Check your comments are on so that people can comment!
- Pick 5 people’s blogs that you can comment on each day – that can really help you and you can learn loads in the process too
Action: Let me know in the comments below what strategies have you tried that are helping you to convert visitors to paying clients.

Ps – If you’re struggling to find paying clients, or simply want more of them, I’ve created a fab little freebie for you. Just fill in your details below and it will be winging its way over to your inbox in no time!
My client, Rebecca Ronane, who coaches women forward after 50, used this very technique with the following results in just a couple of days…
