A Quick Way To Get More Clarity On Your Ideal Clients

Hi there, if you’ve been following along then you will know that I’m taking part in the 30 Day Blogging Challenge with Sarah Arrow (for the 2nd time) and combining it with a content challenge that was running last month in Jenn Scalia’s Little Black Business Book membership group. Today is day 11 of the challenge – I’m talking to you about a quick way to get more clarity on your ideal clients.

30 Day Blogging Challenge 2 #coaching

Sometimes it’s the simple things that are the best. In today’s video, I’m sharing a simple exercise to help you get more clarity around your ideal clients. Watch the video for the full details and I’ve put a mini summary here.

  1. Grab a piece of A4 paper, draw a line down the centre of the page to create two columns
  2. At the top of the left-hand column write ‘Things I don’t like / want’. On the top right-hand column write ‘Things I like/want’
  3. Under the left-hand column, write down all of the things that you don’t want in your ideal client, i.e. being late, not willing to take action etc. List as much as you can possibly think of, it doesn’t matter how small the items are that you write down, just keep brainstorming
  4. Under the right-hand column, write down the opposite thing for each entry. So let’s say you’ve written down that you don’t like working with extroverts then the opposite might be introverts, or perhaps just particular characteristics that you do like in your clients

As you work with clients notice what you do and don’t like, when you talk with people notice those times when you love having conversations. What is it about those conversations that you enjoy? What personality traits and characteristics do those people have?

Seems too simple? Try it! A lot of my clients have had major breakthroughs from this exercise alone.

Ps – If you’re struggling to find paying clients, or simply want more of them, I’ve created a fab little freebie for you. Just fill in your details below and it will be winging its way over to your inbox in no time!

  1. I love this Ruby. I’ve done something very similar. It helps me to not stress out if I lose a customer, because when I look at it, we weren’t a good fit in the first place.

I like this exercise! I think it can carry over to so many areas!

  3. I’ve used this to snap myself out of the “should” mentality. Sometimes when we are coaching, we get caught up in what we “should” be coaching. As a fitness coach, I “should” be coaching clients to lose weight, but what if that drains me and I want to focus on other health concerns? This exercise gives me permission to focus on what I love which is going to help me be the best coach I can be!
