Welcome to day 8 of my 30 day Blogging Challenge – A series called From Zero Confidence To Feeling More Fabulous in 30 Days. If you missed Day One’s post you can read it here and can follow the series through from there. I’m going to be writing about confidence and each day sharing some tips for building your confidence slowly. The tools and hints/tips I’m sharing can be used for you or your coaching clients but for now I want you to focus on you. Building your confidence can have a great impact on your business and life. You will be amazed at what you can do when you feel more confident.
Yesterday we spent some time around negative self talk and the impact it can have on you.
It’s been 7 days now since the first day of this confidence series. I hope you’re enjoying it. If you haven’t joined the Facebook group yet just sign up using the form below, there’s plenty of time to join in.
Here’s a list of some of the things we have worked on so far:
- Flipping It! Turning some negatives into new truths
- Strengths list – writing down a list of strengths up to your age number (keep going with this – it can be a hard task – just take your time!)
- Compliments – writing down your compliments and accepting them as a gift (could these be some of your strengths?)
- Boosting your confidence by 10% – taking teeny tiny steps of bravery
- Stop comparing – you might be comparing bananas to socks
- Dealing with your inner critic – shut that chatterbox up for good
- Managing negative self talk – tips for turning it around
Today we’re going to look at confidence from a different angle – in the form of procrastination.
Do you procrastinate?
Procrastination can have an impact on how you feel about yourself. You start to doubt whether you’re capable of those jobs, or why you aren’t as motivated as others. When you achieve goals, whether it’s just to fix that tap or to taking steps to world domination, it boosts your confidence.
Do you find yourself;
- Saying “I’ll do that tomorrow, next week, when xxxx happens…”?
- Doing all of the little tasks so that you can put off the bigger ones?
- Flitting from one task to another, completing nothing very well?
If so it could be that you’re procrastinating. If this is you try this 3 step plan to help you with your procrastination; Name It, Own It, Fake It.
Procrastination can be linked to confidence which can be linked to procrastination and so the cycle goes on. Lower confidence can result in stopping you from taking action so you procrastinate. Once you procrastinate you can then end up feeling guilty, full of doubt, anxious and overwhelmed where you just don’t start so the list grows. So let’s get this sorted if it applies to you. Now like confidence procrastination needs working at. Lots of people do it so don’t think you’re on your own, you just need a plan!
Chunk It Down
- Write a list of 5 tasks you’re procrastinating about
- Got your list? Prioritise in order of importance – choose the top one
- What are the benefits of doing that task?
- What’s the cost of you not doing it?
- (Emotional, physical, financial)
- Is it just boring? Break it down into mini tasks
- (i.e. tax return)
- Does it need to be done? By you?
- What needs to happen to get it done?
- Is the task too big?
- (small chunks, timeline, create plan)
- What support do you need? Get some accountability
- How will you feel when it’s done – what will you be / do / have?
Today’s Task
Choose one task that you’re putting off and spend 15 minutes on it. It might be a pile of overflowing paperwork, making a phone call or posting something on social media for example. If you’re procrastinating you KNOW which one you should work on. Choose to work on it today. 15 minutes today, 15 minutes tomorrow etc and before you know it you will be done. More importantly though you’ll start to notice how your confidence improves over time where you’ve started to take back control of your life.
In the comments below share what task you were putting off and what you did about it.

I’m very good (or should that be very bad!) at procrastinating. But getting organised and getting better. Accountability helps for me.
I’m not sure which either! Accountability is a brilliant way to get better at taking action. Things declared out loud (and on a big scale) are always more likely to get done
Some great tips here Ruby, chunking is a great strategy as is doing something to just get started
Definitely Mike, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment
This is definitely something I know I should work on. I get overwhelmed by my workload and never ending to do list. Constant interruptions leave me with little time to sit and focus on the big task so I find I just end up doing lots of ‘bitty’ tasks instead. I now try to set myself 3 achievable targets each day and break down bigger tasks into smaller chunks.
Remember to not make it a ‘should’ Jenny but something you choose to do, that way you’ll be more likely to want to do it. I use a system called MIT’s for every day – top 3 most important tasks (I learnt it from Leonie Dawson) – funnily enough I’ve written about it in my newsletter for tomorrow
It’s much easier to focus on 3 things than an enormous list
