Do you know why you’re running the particular type of business that you’re running?
To make money, to pay the bills, to spend more time with my family? These are all good reasons, but they probably aren’t the deep seated reason you’ve chosen this particular area.
If you haven’t watched it then I’d encourage you to watch Simon Sinek’s YouTube video on your big why.
Start to dig a little around your why. It can help to go through the process of an ideal client and then come back to your why because once you get more of an understanding about them you will find it easier. Finding your ‘why’ can be REALLY frustrating. The best way to do this is to ask why. Why is it important that you …
I include this process as part of my Coaching Rocks Bootcamp and I’ve had clients want to throw shoes at me where they get frustrated with me asking why all the time, but it brings great clarity and can really help you formulate the reasons you’d doing this.
If you’re not doing this business thing for a reason that makes sense then why bother at all?
Why not just go and get a 9-5 job? When you run a business you put your all into it, surely it’s far better to know why you’re doing that so that you can make it the best business it can be?
Now let me share my process of my why. I started off my why with… I want to work with coaches to help build their coaching confidence/skills and business.
Why is that important?
Why is that important to me? I want coaches to feel fabulous, I want them to know how amazing they are and that by making the right choices they can have a successful business.
Why is that important to me? Running your own business is amazing and gives you lots of freedom, personal development, you meet some fantastic inspiring people and it’s fun.
Why is it important that I work with coaches? (now we’re starting to get into the nitty gritty) This got me stuck for ages. So I kept on saying to myself, so why is it important that I work with coaches specifically. Well because I know how it feels to be starting a business on your own as a coach, because I know I didn’t feel good enough to call myself a coach just after I trained.
I know how powerful coaching is but I didn’t have the confidence to share that with everyone, because I had to go through such a time-consuming, challenging, tiring and frustrating process to understand what running a business is about and I want to help others to avoid that painful process by getting them there quicker.
Why specifically that business area?
So why is it important that I work with coaches specifically, why not any business owner? Truthfully, because I was scared, lonely, worried about being a failure and more importantly because I know how amazing coaching is so I knew I had to stick at it – to help people. I know what they go through because I’ve been through it, I understand the self-doubt, the stress of trying to know where to start, what to do next and the time you can spend trying to find the answers to getting your business off the ground.
Why is it important to stick with it and help people? Because coaching helps people change their mind-sets and by changing their mind-sets, people get to choose and create the lives they really love, those amazing, incredible, lived with passion lives. So many coaches give up and I want to be someone that can help them to keep going, to bring their services out into the world and help more people.
Why is that important to you?
Why is it important that people change their mind-sets and live their lives on purpose? Because they become so much happier, when they start to make better choices, own their lives and be the best they can be.
Why is it important that they become so much happier – because I hate seeing people unhappy when they can be positive. I grew up with a miserable grumpy father and I want everyone to make the decision to be happy. I want them to get up and notice the beauty in life, the little things that make life amazing. I want them to know that no matter what they are going through there will always be something small to be grateful for. It might be something someone says, the water running, being able to see etc.
Why is it important to me that people are happy? Because life is just full of limitless opportunity when you choose to go after your dreams and create what you want. I want to rid the world of grumpy people so that they can get all they desire. Bingo!
And how does coaching coaches help me to rid the world of grumpy people? By spreading the message of how powerful coaching is and helping more coaches stay in business more people’s mind-sets get changed and mission accomplished – less grumpy people.
Figuring out your ‘why’ is really worth the effort!
Now I will tell you this was an incredibly frustrating process but now it’s done it’s fantastic. Yes, my why might seem silly to you, but it works for me. I totally know WHY I do what I do and it’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. Your turn!!
