Step Three – Niching
This is, I think, one of the biggest single things that makes a huge difference to you and how you run your business. When you know who ‘your people’ are, where they hang out, how you’re different and how you can help them you will find your messages in every area of your business will be so much easier and clearer. Before I niched my message was almost that I could coach everyone with a pulse so you can imagine how clear my marketing was (and don’t even get me started on my awful conversations at networking events!) Since niching I know exactly who I’m writing to in my newsletters, my blog posts, my social media posts etc. I know who I am and what I offer when I have conversations.
Once you niche people who aren’t right for you can make that decision easily. You don’t get time wasters because your message is so clear you only attract the right people. We think that we can coach anyone. Yes, we can but does that mean that’s what our message is? Think of even the biggest names in business and you will recognise that they aren’t marketing to everyone, they have a specific audience. You may still work with people that don’t fit your niche, but your overall message has a specific audience in mind.
I know it’s scary because you think you’ll lose business, but actually you can gain business because your message is clearer. People know immediately if you’re the right person to work with and you start to run your business with ease.
