A Simple Way To Strengthen Your Confidence

Welcome to day 2 of my 30 day Blogging Challenge.  If you missed yesterday’s post where I introduced the challenge you can read it here.  I’m going to be writing about confidence and each day sharing some tips for building your confidence slowly.

Everyone has their own interpretation of the word confidence and what it means to them.  To some it’s standing up in a front of a room full of people to do a talk, to others it’s cooking a meal where every last morsel is eaten, to others it’s knowing that what you do is a good job.  For some it’s saying ‘no’ to a friend or colleague at work.

This is a dictionary definition – what does it mean to you?

Noun

  • The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust, “we had every confidence in the staff”
  • The state of feeling certain about the truth of something

Synonyms

  • Trust – faith – reliance – belief – credit – credence

I want you to rate your confidence today and then apply some of the hints and tips from the series as it progresses.  On a scale of 1-10 how confident are you right now, where 10 is high and 1 is low?   Now I know there will be some things you’re really confident in and some where you’re not so confident but overall where would you rate yourself?  Be honest about it but don’t get hung up on it.  It’s just a starting point and by taking small steps you can improve.

Now I said I was going to share some simple ways you can boost your confidence.  Yesterday we talked about flipping some of your negative language.  Today I want you to talk to you about gathering some ‘evidence’ for how amazing you are.  Journalling is a great thing to do and today is a fabulous day to start!

So I want to set you a specific task for this weekend/coming week;

  1. Buy/find a little notebook or journal (or set up a digital document)
  1. Write a list of your strengths matching your age, so if you’re 21 you need to list 21 strengths, if you’re 49 you need to list 49 strengths etc.

The aim for the end of this series if for you to have a minimum of 30 strengths by the end of January.  This can be a really tough list to pull together so if you’re stuck ask your friends and family for help.  Put it to one side and keep adding to it as the week(s) go on.  It’s funny how others can see our strengths but we can’t see our own.

One of my top strengths is an unshakeable belief in the Gods of Serendipity and that no matter how bad things get, something serendipitous will turn up to turn them around. It doesn’t always happen in the way I might want or expect, but sometimes all it takes is the slightest tremor to create a seismic shift ;)

Great post! One of my great strengths is the same one you mentioned – Positivity. I know that no matter how rough things might look on the surface, under all that is perfection. Everything in the world is in it’s place and all’s well.

    • It makes such a difference to how you feel, doesn’t it Ed? Love that phrase about everything being in its place :)

  4. Good post :)

    I love journalling!

    • It’s a lovely way to spend your time, isn’t it Shan? I went through an old journal today and was amazed at how much I’ve achieved since writing down some things I wanted to do, plus it helps me get out my head which is sooooo important! :)
